I was checking out the new Camry model/spec and noticed the piston size as 87.5mm or 3.444 inches. I don't know/still looking for the compression height of these. The stroke of this engine is 103.4 or 4.070 inches. It is also has 14:1 compression ratio ( WOW ). The car is impressive.....but this aside LOL............just seeing how the pistons may work out in the various Slant 6 engines, stock/custom-modified etc.... |

Cool good to know! Need to know comp ht of course. Are they forged or hypereutectic or?? 14:1 would be static CR without the variable valve timing (and maybe lift too). Lou |

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the info. I bet the pin size is also different. Not quite sure how to compensate for that if (possibly) using on a slant 6. Greg |

If the pin size is smaller than the slant, the rod small end could possibly be bushed. If the pin is larger the small end of the rod could be opened up. Of course this depends on how lare a differance in size.I bet the pin size is also different. Not quite sure how to compensate for that if (possibly) using on a slant 6. Greg PS: Also might be possible to "pin fit" the slant pins to the Toyota pistons. |

The rod pin will be much smaller. I used to work at a Yota dealer around 10 years or so ago. The big way they get away with the ultra high compression is the direct injection system. I would suspect that this engine also uses toyotas dual injector (D4S?) system that has both port and direct injectors for every cylinder. There are several asian engines with bores in the ballpark of the slants. My memory is that the infamous Honda K24 is 3.425 and I had a set of 6 factory pistons laying around for the longest time before I tossed them. The pistons pins are smaller and you would need to source a custom length rod to use them. Then there is the added problem that 4 valve pistons are likely to be domed in a shape that matches the head. Rarely are they flattops. If you did want an asian piston and a flattop in a size that MIGHT work in a slant six, there is the honda J35 piston measuring in 3.5 bore. But once again I have had them in hand and the pins are small, requiring a custom length rod. |
