I am moving along slowly with my slant project. The engine is out of a 1984? D150 pickup. The old timing chain sprocket was one of the non-metalic ones and it had a lot of wear. I am replacing it with a Rollmaster set that has the keyways to adjust cam timing. It seems that I heard that the stock cams were retarded a few degrees when they are set dot to dot. Should I set the cam back dot to dot or should I advance it to counteract the factory setting? How can I degree the stock cam? I am leaving the stock cam in until I have the time to pull the engine back out and rebuild it, hoping to port the head and up the compressin a bit. Thank you. |

You do it the same way you would do it if it was a new cam. You can't just line up the dots on anything. That is a huge risk. Also the rollmaster gear is extremely tight on the crankshaft and may need the inside diameter "dressed" a little. I and others have had to cut some off the back of the crank sprocket to get proper line up with the top gear too. Can't remember the exact amount but I think it was about .060. I can try and find it for you later. |

Factory Service Manual. What are the details on the engine? I might have what you need. |
