My stock Dart GT convertible from 1964 has now Maxxis MA-1 P175/80R13 tires on it.

They are about 11 years old and need replacement. I actually think the tires are a bit too narrow; but I'm not going for 14" or anything I wanna keep it stock, plus finding stuff en the EU for these cars is either not available or extremely expensive. Shipping from the US is not even an option $$$...


Anyone experience with 195/70R13 ?

Finding quality 13" is very hard in the US as well. Most of the major brands have abandoned the size for everything but their most budget oriented tires. Sticking with 13" isn't going to leave you with many "good" choices, but sourcing good used 14" rims (or tires) is getting very hard too.

I know a tall 195 mm width tire clears easily on a 65 valiant front and rear. The size you mention is only 23.7 inches. I remember running something closer to 24.5-25 inches. Your current tire is 24.6 inches total diameter. Sorry for all the SAE sizing I am sure metric diameters are a little more relatable. If originality were less important than drivability you could go down the rabbit hole of big bolt pattern with much better wheel and tire size choices.

If I'm not mistaken, ideal tires are made by famous Dutch tire company Vredestein. These, in 6.4 × 13. That's almost identical to the original factory-installed size of 6.50 × 13, so you won't mess up the speedometer calibration, and you won't have to risk your life on Chinese junk. Even though 6.4 is slightly less than 6.5, the contact patch will still be much larger than the original 1964 tires, because these are radial tires.

Bias tire markings were not exact wide numbers. Depending of the desimals there is also mixed the profile in the marking. But sure those could be nice under an early a-body. I have been happy with 185R14 tires front. Anything wider could make the manual steering heavy.

For radial tires modern settings of camber, caster and toe-in would be helpful for a nice ride.
