Post subject:  FOUND Looking for a free or cheap rebuilt or known good 225 head in the Los Angeles Area

Hey there folks! I'm located in North Hollywood, CA and am looking for a 225 head that's been rebuilt or is known good- that someone would like to donate to the cause or sell cheap (like $50 max). I'm on a shoestring budget here, and am hoping one of you lovely /6 fans has an abandoned one laying around I could pickup! I did see one in Ventura FB marketplace that fits this description, but the seller hasn't gotten back to me since I messaged him mid week- if that's one of you, please let me know.

I bought my first mopar, a '75 Scamp (with a '70 225) about a month ago and have been working through it's list of issues. It has not started in at least a few years, and has not been registered for 7 (2019). After lashing the valves (half of the rocker arms had zero lash) and pre-lubricating the cylinders the compression in the head is (front to back) 70-70-90-90-60-70. So pretty darn poor. After this discovery last weekend, myself, an ex-machinist mopar buddy, and his aviation mech. friend, all gave a serious effort to get it started anyway, and we got quite close, but did not succeed. * That lack of success also ended with me needing another functional starter *

Anyway, I took the head off yesterday: 10 valves leak quite badly, and 2 leak less, a few are burnt, and the head gasket looks like it was leaking in at least 2 spots. I think it got quite warm in there at some point. This is all to say, if any of you have a head that fits this description (and/or a starter) please do let me know! Otherwise, maybe I'll see some of you at the CPW Fall Fling Swap Meet next weekend perusing the /6 parts.

Thanks for reading,
Zane

There's a guy on FABO (I believe it's user "junkyard hero") offering a /6 for free over there but I believe you have to take the whole engine. He's somewhere in California... If I remember Ventura maybe?
I have a fresh ready to run head here but I'm in IL. and have more tied up into it than you're suggesting. I have a bare head I could offer for free but shipping would cost more than your $50. Look around. They're out there.

Thanks for the offer and the potential lead volaredon. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing junkyardhero's slant posting that you're mentioning. If you see it again and are able to link it, that would be terrific, his account is indeed, LA based, and he has a killer brown dart wagon which I envy.

However, if you're thinking of kerndog's post, then that is indeed a whole free slant but sadly it's at the other end of California outside of Sacramento (about 7 hours away) and he doesn't know if it runs. I'll keep looking around my area for now. Thank you again for the reply.

With that compression, it should have started. Likely you have other troubles too. Check for a skipped/loose timing chain, ignition timing, carb/fuel. I imagine you checked the timing and fuel already...
