WHAT HOLDS THE HOOD BRACKETS ON? My 64 Valiiant has torsion style hood springs. Beyond being a general PITA, this summer my hoodlatch failed and the whole hood flew off. Thankfully nobody was hurt. The brackets with went with the hood. That didn't seem right, of course, but I couldn't find any obvious holes or bolts that the brackets would have attached to. I figured that the mystery would be solved when I removed the brackets from a parts car that I bought for the hood. As soon as I loosened up the bracket and removed tension, it popped out of the area it connected to behind the fender. No bolt or nut or anything obvious as to where it connected. On the driver's side, there is a stud that the hood bracket is connected to, but there isn't one on the passenger side. My shop manual doesn't have any info about how the brackets connect. Insights and advice appreciated. |

Hood hinges are held onto the body with push nuts, 1 per side. There is a stud that is welded to the body that also acts as the hood hinge pivot. That is where the push nuts go. The springs use torsion force with 1 roller to hold themselves in. Something like this.. Round Push Nut Black-Phosphate Steel, for 1/2" Screw Size https://www.mcmaster.com/product/94800A760 Check the exact id to be sure. Dan may be able to give an exact part #. They are rather thick and might be special parts unlike the McMaster link I posted. Greg |
