Sometimes when I shift into park to turn the car off and park, the parking brake doesn't activate and the car rolls... so I have to put on the emergency brake. This wouldn't be a problem except the emergency brake also sucks. Any thoughts?

Parking Brake?!?!?!? In a 60's-70's era mopar....the 'parking brake' is the e-brake.... And your car should roll no more than 6" before the parking 'pawl' in the auto tranny 'locks' the assembly...BUT....the parking pawl is not meant to be used alone, if the car's weight rests against it to much, or your cars rolls against it often when parking, you've probably busted the pawl which isn't a 'fun' fixit. If your local tranny shop can't fixit in your budget a pair of 4x4 blocks 6" long will live behind the driver's seat for use behind a tire during those 'parking moments'...

Thank god it's not a 50' era truck with the driveline 'clutch brake' for parking...

If Park is working sometimes, you probably need a linkage adjustment.

When I put in a rebuilt trans, the parking pawl assembly had been misassembled and could not function. Had to redo it myself. My cable-shifted ('64) mechanism is probably different from yours, but you might take a look at your linkage and the pawl mechanism to make sure everything is present' in the right place, and adjusted correctly.
