I'm not here to start anything, but I figured some one here may not read moparts and would want to respond to this, particularly the third message on page 1. I thought a turbo'd slant got better then that kind of mileage and still be plenty streetable? http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/sho ... =7&fpart=1 |

Its kind of a tough crowd for slant six owners over there. I just ignore them non-believers, they just don't get it! |

We all love our slants for sure, but to a certain extent I believe he does have a point. Just flipping through a summit catalog and any mention of mopar is small block this and big block that.... |

| Post subject: | Slant six VS. V-8 |
I for one could care less what other people think about our Slant Sixes. I remember being called nuts 25 years ago when I had a 225 slant 6, 65 valiant. The answer to the question why do you have a slant six in your car when you could have a V-8 for the same money is this. Why would I want to have a V-8 when 50,000 other people have one just like it. I never had so much fun as when I beat the same guy 3 times in time trials at the drags. He wanted to know what size V-8 it had! I popped the hood and showed him my slant 6, 4-barrel and headers and his face dropped ! He had been beat by lowly slant 6. While I was only running 15.3 seconds, that was with .391 gears and single track rear ,on street tires. It was easily a mid 14 second car with a set of slicks and a posi, that I drove on the road everyday for 2 years. As for gas mileage, I'm sure that people can get much more than 10 MPG with the right set-up (overdrive trans. ...etc) and still run some real respectable time. Just look at what Lou is doing with his Dart? Dare to be different, Drive a slant six!! Rick |

I've got a big-block Coronet, a small-block truck and a slant Valiant. I love them all, but when I want to have fun driving, it's the slant that I choose. I almost never mention my slant on other forums, since they usually have an over-population of ill-mannered people. The guys with cubic dollars can't imagine what it is about a slant that makes them fun, but that's their problem, not mine. Mopars are unique in an automotive world of boring clones and slants are unique Mopars. Just call me different. |

Like 64 Convert, I have run just about every type of Mopar (except Hemis) and I seem to enjoy the Slant the most. For me it is a combination of the SL6's simple design, durability and how it really responds to improvements the average person can do himself. I also enjoy the underdog and be different aspect of running "unpopular" engines. I can see the other point of view, I have been there, done the "Superfast" big block thing, done the screaming small block. Doing those are great if you want to "hang" with a big crowd, and not get noticed. As for that "Piss on the Slant" thread, I feel bad for the member who asked the original question. I don't think I want to "jump-in" on that "shoot-out" because the discussion seems to have drifted away from technical fact. DD |

Attitudes liek theone in that thread are the reason why I only post on this board and at .com. I go to moparts and mopar chat for their classifieds section, but that is about it. Slants are fun, easier to work on, cheaper to work on (if you do your homework about parts interchangeability) and just different. I can't wait until I can take my 66 Barracuda Formula "S" to shows and have people stop and stare when I open the hood to expose the fuel injected hyper-pak slant six. Plus, v-8s just get boring. Everyone has one. There is no real challenge to building one. Just pick one of the hundreds of buildups that have been published over the years. Building a slant takes creativity and research. Reed |
