Post subject:  holley 2 bbl accelerator pump tuning?

Ok my car finally passed emissions, so I was able to pull of the stock carter and put on my $25 holley 2bbl I got from a swap meet. The carb is brand new but has nothing for the charcoal canister. The carb is for some AMC 6cyl from the early 60s. Anyways I bolted it on and the car idles and runs like never befor! has quite a bit more power. The problem is it has a bog when you punch it off idle, at higher engine speeds its not as noticable but is still there. I have a white cam set on number 2 with a 25 shooter. This is the same setup I had on my 600 holley bolted onto a small block and it ran fine but on this it seems to be lean. Anyways when you are trying to cover up a hole off idle or initial tip in would I need to increase the shooter size or the cam or both? Its been along time since I have messed with a holley. I am thinking of trying a larger shooter maybe a 30 to get fuel in faster, but dont want to spend the $$ if I need something else.
Thanks

Post subject:  More shot...

White cam is a real small cam, and 25 is a start...

Your next two 'shooters' are 28 and 31, I'd try an Orange 466 cam in the #1 position with the '25' and move up to the 28 if the duration is good but the shot isn't big enough...31 is a pretty big shot. FYI anything over the 31 and you have to get a hollow screw to make it flow correctly (They're like $10 for the screw, Holley has discontinued them, but moroso has picked up production). If you have to go to a pink 330 cam, something isn't right....

Thanks. I tried a pink cam the other day (happened to have it laying around), but it still bogged then sputtered and went rich farther up in the RPMs. So I think I will try a slightly bigger shooter and see what happens.
Thanks again

Put a vacuum guage on it and check your power valve rating.
Slants usually pull some good idle vacuum so you may need to up the power valve to 8.5 - 10.5 range in order to get the power circuit to kick-in sooner.

Post subject:  Ancient Carb...

According to some parts books the Holley 2300 was used in some applications on 6 and 8 cylinder Rambler/AMC/Nash...most 6 cyls up to 1964 used Carters...never thought I'd look up a Holley 'R' number that was only in the 2000 series (your app. might be coded R-2144...).

Doc's on the right track, with my Hpak at cruise I pull 15" so the closest I can get is 10.5 an 8.5 leaves a bog window between 11 and 9" on the gauge.

what Jets are you running? 52's?

The power valve says 9.5 on it. As for jets They are 50s, They seem to be pretty close. The plugs are a tan color. The carb runs great everywhere but a hard launch. Normal drivings great. I just cant get a good launch without the bog. I havnt been able to get the bigger shooters yet, just been driving the car the way it is.
Thanks again guys.
