It was the vibration damper that had come adrift on the hub so it would spin right around. because that pulley was sandwiched between two others (it's an a/c, p/s car) it didn't spit itself off. A new vibe damper cured it...also got to find out about a pretty cool mopar only wrecking yard in Sandy, about 20 miles away.

good folks, and they schooled me on, and sold me, the proper long dipstick and dipstick for an a/c model...
