My wife and I are going to build up the six. My first thing will be to install a "super six" manifold and carb. Will this help the 170 run any better? Also, whats a good price for a setup. Will I have to switch to a cable type throttle linkage? What will I need next? Thanks for you help and opinions |

In case you haven't found it already, http://www.slantsix.org/articles/supersix/article.htm This should hopefully answer many questions you have about the Super Six package. Following the intake upgrade, definitely upgrade the exhaust system. Following that I recommend upgrading your camshaft and possibly porting the head and installing bigger valves. Reed |

OK then whats the MOST I should pay for a complete super six setup.? And also try to answer this: What is attainable as far as horsepower if I do the supersix swap, change to a better cam, headers , head work. etc.. I'm trying to plan this correctly, so please bear with me. Thanks |

On the cam, be careful as the 170 is a 0 deck block and too much cam may lead to valve/piston interfefance.Also ,I think that Doc mentioned in one post to leave the stock valves in to keep from killing your bottom end. Im sure the intake and exust will really wake it up as the slants were way under carbureated in my opinion.I have a freshly rebuilt 170 that Im saving for a track style ratrod t-bucket project in the far future. you could probably find a running 225 /6 for little to nothing, i just gave 1 away with 70k original. if your looking for a stronger driving car, i think that would be your most cost effective route. |

I can give you a "core" engine cheap if you need something to build-up. Another good option is to call the parts stores to see what they get for a remanufactured 225. My guess is that a rebuilt long block can be had for right around $1000.00 DD |

If you decide to go the 225 engine and your car is an automatic, then your choices are any year up to 1968 (I think). The reason is that the crank pocket was enlarged after that. A later engine will work as long as you use an adapter on the torque convertor 'button'. (These are available from Wildcat Mopars {www.wildcat mopars.com}). Also the pre-76 motors use the heavier steel crank (large bearings). Motors after 1976 used the lighter cast crank (smaller bearings.) I'm in the process of converting my 1964 Dart to a 225. It's a automatic -gotta love the cable shift. Good Luck |

check the junk yards, and news paper, parts cars and slant motors in general can be found for cheap. you mihgt want to even try to find a car that has disk brakes and the 225, that way you kill 2 in one. 2 years ago i bought a 72 dart swinger, 225/6 70koriginal, with manual disk brakes(neweverything) for $300. it had everything i needed to convert the car i was working on at the time. here in NY my friend has a 225/6 from a wrecked 65 dart 'vert 4 sale, too bad your in CA... |
