I've read in few different places that the big end width of the slant six is 1.015". I measured the rods on the 170 that I'm rebuilding and they are about 1.208". Is this just a 170 thing, or do I have some kind of weird rods?

The Rods I have here from the 63 darts 225 engine are also 1.208 wide
at the big end.

I think it was about 1976 that Mopar started using a cast crank in the slant, and the rods changed, too. The big end bore was reduced, and width also went down. It might be that the smaller dimension you mentioned is for the cast crank rods, while your 170 rods are for a forged steel crank. Sorry I don't know the actual dimensional differences.

Heckshemi, are you going to make the Mopar show at Don Garlits museum, in Ocala FL next weekend?

The 1.015 spec. is the factory call-out for the rod bearing insert width.
Truth is that I think many of today's inserts are less then that, more like .987
The actual con rod surface and bearing journal on the crank is wider.
