Slant Six Forum :: choke adjustment on a Holley 2280 2 bbl

Dear friends,
I have read the excellent article on choke adjustments posted on the /six board and yet I am having trouble getting the choke to close initially.

I brought a new stove and installed it. However, the initial adjustment I think needs to have more tension placed upon it. If I want more initial tension I believe I have to remove the cir-clip and wrap the coil spring once or twice around the resting point. There is a slot for a screw driver but that is not going to move. I have tried that route.

To start the truck now I have to remove the air cleaner and then place my finger on the choke blade and open the throttle with my other hand and it snaps into place. Then the truck starts fine and the rest works perfectly. I want to get into the truck stomp on the gas and be done with it.

This problem may be caused by the angle of the eyelet where the choke rod attaches to the carb. I know that this is a problem with the BBD where if you try to use a V8 version, the eyelet is in a different position and will be "over-center" to the point where the flap will not close unless "helped". (the choke rod on the V8 comes straight up from underneath, the Super Six comes-in from the side at a 45 degree angle) Take a look in Reed's Super Six article for more information on this. DD

I would think that a slight adjustment of the choke diapham is also called for in this case. It appears that the wire is closed to tight. By opening the bend a slight bit it will position the center of the curve lightly ahead of dead center and should drop in to place with the least effort.
