i have the timing set and the gm transistor well grounded and the car fires up runs like a champ then dies. its really buggin me thetransistor is new as is the distributet?i am toatally lost here can anyone help??

does it die when you let off the key?
if so you probably need a new ballast resistor.

i would adjust the idle screw just to see if I had the idle set to low

I agree with 70val-- Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Double check the carb settings. If it still has a ballast, doesn't hurt to change it as well.
