Just wondered? Did they change diameter or length anytime in their run. I know the later ones have a hole in the bushing end for a cotter pin. Any other changes?

I need to install my heim joint solid bushings in my '65 and am wondering what cars I can grab rods off of. I'd like to keep a set of rods in case I want to go back anytime.

By the way. Do any of you guys have a pair of rods you'd part with that are just lying around your shop. It would save me a trip to PickAPart. They don't have much a-body stuff anymore anyway. And Memory Lane probably wants a bazillion dollars for them.

The '72-down rods are the same, as I think Dartvader and I figured out, and the '73-up rods are a bit shorter.

When I did my disk brake conversion, I didn't notice any differance in length between the '65 struts and the '75 struts. But, the '75 struts were noticeably thicker.

I wonder which rods I'm supposed to use with my conversion. What's the diameter of the '75 rods?

When I put one strut rod from a '69 next to a strut rod from a '75 and measured CAREFULLY, it became apparent that the '75 rod is 1/2" shorter between the shoulders,(not overall), to accomodate a thicker bushing on the later years. They are interchangeable if you use the correct bushing.

If I'm is using the new MOOG HD strut rod bushings in my 65 should I also be using the "shorter" strut rod? That would allow the LCA further forward slightly helping caster right? Maybe that's why I go through LCA and strut rod bushings?

Mike,

There may be a mismatch here. I have the MOOG improved strut bushings on both my '64 and '68 and they have been holding up fine. There are two different parts listed - one for pre-'72 and one for '73-up. Maybe getting the wrong parts??

How many miles do you get out of a set?

But about a year and a half and the bushing cracked. And my LCA bushing is shot. It's also time to do tierods. but they're about 10 years old.

When I pull the front end apart I want to switch to the welded on swaybar tabs instead of the ADDCO bar that clamps onto the strut rod. I wonder if putting a side load on the strut rod is what cracked the bushing?

There's an idea, may be the sway bar...

What's your schedule 12/10-12/15? I'll be in LA.

If nothing changes I'll be layed off from Dec 5th to Jan 5th. It's a good/bad thing. Mostly bad but I'm trying to spin it. I'll have some time to fool with the car. It really could use a complete tuneup. I need to finish putting the 833 back together. The 8 3/4 is next. I might have time for that too. Let's get together. I live up in Castaic now. About 30 min. north of Burbank. Let's get together. We'll have you guys up for lunch or dinner while you're here.
