How much oil should be getting to the rocker arms when running? I had the heads redone on the slant six but when it runs and I look in the filler cap, there is oil going directly onto each valve spring and there is no excessive noise but it seems more like a steady trickle of oil. Is that sufficient and normal? Thanks as always.

Mike

I beleive that is sufficient, all of my slants are about like that.Slants dont throw a huge amount of oil in the top end at low rpms.

Thanks, I was hoping you would say that. I see no signs of insufficient oil but it sure looks sparse in there. Thanks to everyone's excellent help here, I will have this beast on the road in a few days. First drive will be to the transmission shop to get a reverse in it again. Thank you everyone. Now I need to move on to a 59 Lincoln rebuild for my other son.

I always tank the rockers, run wires through the oil passages, hone the bores, and regrind the tips. After all that, I retank them. Double check the rocker shaft intallation, making sure the oil holes are oriented properly, the shaft end plugs are in, and the correct bolts are in the right locations. For whatever reasons, mine always oil quite well.
