I think I made out here. Its a '76 Aspen 8 1/4 3.21 SG for $52 bucks. I had to pull it myself but I think its gonna be a great rear end to replace my 7 1/4 2.76 in my '74 Scamp.

Backing plate to backing plate measures the same but the wheels mount about an inch further out. I'll have to get some offset wheels. Need new wheels anyway for the 5 on 4 1/2 pattern. Also I need to weld new spring perches because the Aspen was slightly wider. I hope it all works.

One question.

Did the 8 1/4 rears have oval covers?

I thought the 8 1/4's had hex covers only. I saw quite a few in this yard with oval 10 bolt covers. This was the only SG though. Came from an Aspen SE with a 360.

BTW I also have the parts for a front disc conversion with the same bolt pattern. Also I checked the ring gear part number and it matches the 8 1/4 3.21 ratio from an earlier post someone did.

Thanks for the help on this form.

Post subject:  9 1/4"....

all 8 1/4" have round covers...even the one under my mom's Durango...(too bad the spline pattern isn't the same on her 3.91 'Anti-Spin')....

Hex covers are the 7 1/4", and 9 1/4" get the 'stop sign' 12 bolt cover...(although the Dana cover is kinda hex covered too, but when was the last time any one saw a wrecked 440 6pak Cuda in a wrecking yard?!?!?)...

You should go back and see if that Aspen had a fender tag code of E58 and if so snag the 360 for a 'trade/future project'...most E58 360's came with lots of nice 'goodies'...
