Post subject:  Vacuum canister replacement

I have found my slant six has too much vacuum advance. The car went much better at highway speeds (3...3500 rpm) w/o vacuum advance than the vacuum connected. I got then an idea to adjust it, but unfortunately I found my distributor does not have adjustable vacuum canister. So I cant tune this feature to optimum.

The vacuum advance canister has an engraved text "6.5X", which I quess, means 13 degrees total vacuum advance. I like to get similar unit but with possibility to tune up it with allen key so that the vacuum advance goes away with higher vacuum ratio.

My problem is that there is no more SL6 parts in the Mopar Performance catalog. And I am sure when I call my local parts store they do not have these any more in stock. And I quess typical replacement parts catalogs does not have printed details of advance curve and/or adjustability.

I like to get information for the source and for the part n:o for adjustable vacuum pot. Thanks!

Standard brand ignition makes these canisters in many different advance ratings, and they are all adjustable. Many parts stores in the US carry these. I would guess that a place like rockauto.com or carparts.com can ship you one of these. You may have to call them to special order.

Post subject:  Echlin VC3011 is a direct replacement

It seems they all except the one hanging in the side of my distrubutor, are adjustable. My local part store had Echlin VC3011 for me. It has the same 6.5X rating and it is adjustable. I found they also have the obsolete P3690789 conversion kits in stock.

I'm sure there is no many European cars where the spare parts availability is better after many decades from the manufacturing date.

Of course it is another question, if the other car brands need so much them all the time... Just kidding, but my car seems to be in the 'fix it daily after use' -process just now.
