I have a rebuilt tranny that was for a push button vehicle. Can I adapt it for use in my 73 Duster that has a floor shift? Reverse is out on mine and rather than pay for a rebuild, I can get this rebuilt for less than $100 and that would be cheaper and faster. Thanks. Mike |

Hey Mike I have a push button 904 off a '62 fury and when I wanted to bolt it on my car (wich is 70something) noticed that the torque converter is different and adapting another way of shifting diffrent than the pbutton was very very hard. Good luck! |

This is not a straightforward swap. Shifter linkage is totally different, and the input shaft has different splines so you'd have to have a custom converter made with the big hub/small splines, or put a spacer ring in the back of your crank (Wildcat Wrecking in OR). Lou |

Thanks everybody. How about if I use the pushbutton one to give to the tranny shop so they can use the guts on the rebuild or would that cost more or the same? Mike |

You might be able to use the guts, minus the cable-shift valve body. Those valve bodies are specific to '63-64 and the '65 - with a slight difference between those two. If you try to fabricate a shifter and install that one, make sure it is an "A" body 904. There are differences in the tailshaft length and the trans mount position. |
