OK, this is weird. but my 73 Dart (225 slant 6) has a dipstick that looks as if the end has been chewed off _ all the marks are missing. the socket is loose in the block, so the stick could move around...anybody else ever heard of this/have it happen?

When I fired up my good motor, I heard a rattle coming from the bottom end. I noticed the top of the dipstick wiggling and pulled it out. Noise went away. I had to bend the stick a little to keep it out of the crank. Dennis

The best "dipstick tip" I can give is to keep it away from the crank!

I can't count all the broken-off dipstick tips I have found in the bottom of a well used SL6 oil pans.
Yes, it's a somewhat common problem, that dipstick is no match for 76lbs of spinning SL6 crankshaft.

I have found they break off nice and clean at the full mark! If someone put a manifold on it 9 times out of 10 the dipstick tube gets bent and into the crank it goes.

One of the lttle quirks of a slant goes along with crackd exhaust manifolds well!

My wife's '95 LHS has a cool dipstick I'd like to adapt to a sl/6. It's a cable with a crimped-on little torpedo shaped slug. Very readable, flexible, with a good sized yellow-colored t-handle on the end.
