Post subject:  1964 Valiant Washer Reservoir Install

Anybody have a good (high res) pix showing the windshield washer reservoir and how it's mounted in a 1964 Valiant? It seems like somebody might have sold me the wrong reservoir but I'm not sure.

Thanks!

John

I should be mounted on the inner fender, next to the master cylinder. There should two dimples that you can drill for the mounting tabs. The pump should mount below the washer on the shock mount facing the firewall. There should also be dimples that you can drill to mount the pump.

Post subject:  metal bracket in place

There is already a metal bracket installed at the location where the washer fluid reservoir should be. This is bolted to the shelf there. the bolts are about 3 inches apart, then the bracket angles up to the sides (toward the front and back of the car) in such a way that it looks like a bottle is supposed to clip onto it.

I have a plastic reservoir which I ordered, which matches pictures I've seen from 65-67 models, with plastic tabs on the sides where it is supposed to be bolted to the shelf there, which would put the bolts about 8 inches apart (the width of the reservoir).

It seems pretty clear to me that there is supposed to be a different part for the 64 model year, but I can't find a picture of a complete 64 engine compartment anywhere, and the original shop manual (which I own) doesn't cover that particular part.

Anybody have any ideas?

thanks,
John

Did the 64 have the hanging bag?

It must. Thats just what it sounds like. You could dig around in old school buses and see if there are any in there. The pre-82 buses had them.

Yep, '64 was the last year for the hanging-bag reservoir and the first year for the electric washer pump (replacing the rubber kick bulb).
