Thropar, I'd say you're right on target with those prices. I bought a NEW Ford Racing T5 from Summit for $1100 and did all the fab work myself (including adapter plate and X-members) and the total came in around $1900 or so. I did put in a $125 T5 to begin with and it worked fine except the 2nd and 3rd synchros were junk. Still need to rebuild that one... I think Keisler will do up a BH adapter for about $200 now. ss.com has a lot if you search T5... Happy building, Lou |

Have you considered either an A833 OD (Whats the difference, still a stick with OD) I have been looking for a Dakota 2WD 5 speed, but not very hard since I have 2, 833 OD's here already. Still a huge improvement over the 904 that I took out of the Volare, since shifting my own gears is way more fun than a boring automatic will ever be. Just gotta decide whether to use the long or short tail one. Leaning towards the long tail since with my console idea the shifter probably won't be in the stock place anyway, and it would give me a shorter driveshaft, which (sometimes) translates into a smoother ride. It is a 100% cast iron (read: heavy) truck/van one, although I doubt that there is enuf difference to matter since the short tail one is an alum main case but still a cast iron tail. One of my goals that I set is to build my car with as much as possible that I have already to keep the costs down. The only advantage that I can see in the Dakota trans is the direct-in-the-top-of-the-trans shifter that might eliminate the need to find or fabricate a 4 speed hump. It will be a cruiser when done not any sort of a racer. The other goal is to beat my brother at this resto game.... I hope to have my Volare running and show worthy before he has his 68 Charger done, yet he has had an 8 year head start! |

Tropar, before you spend an arm and a leg on aftermarket clutch sinarios take a trip to the closest clutch rebuilder in your area the one that rebuilds the ones on industrial equipment, trucks, fork lifts, heavy equipment most also do custom builds for race cars and they really understand the phisics involved. and the prices might suprize you, in a good way |

I used the stock bell housing and 9" clutch with stock clutch linkage when I put a 5 speed in my 65 Valiant. This made the swap much simpler and cheaper. ,,,,,and the clutch works like a stocker.....go figger. |

hey thanks Bruce and Sandy, good tips... i know the stock 2 disc(?) front clutch in the 904 isn't going to hold very long and the 5 speed is really the new way to go... would love to see any fabrication/linkage/modification pics if anyone has any of the 5 speed deal-e-o... |

Thropar, FWIW, I engineered a stock-type linkage setup for the T5 trans and later that I never used. It should work fine and I think I have all the parts for it. I'd consider selling it as a package. Shoot me email - lmadsen@email.unc.edu Thanks, Lou |
