Hello fellow inliners.....I bought some ARP head studs for my 200 Ford six and it turns out they're about a quarter inch too long...now I know some of you have used head studs on your inlines and I was wondering if using hardened steel washers would "fix" this problem.... I have some pics...http://mandarinamustang.tripod.com/fordsix/id20.html Thanks, Alex |

ARP (and other suppliers) do sell hardened washer to be used with head studs, most often this is done with aluminium heads to prevent damage. You may want to call ARP and let them know about your problem, could be that they have a better fitting replacement they could send in exchange. DD |

Unless there are interference problems, can't you just take a die and add more threads to the stud? |

You need more information. Measure the distance the stud goes through the head. This distance plus the thickness of the washer is the maximum unthreaded length (called the coller) of the stud you can use. Measure the thread depth in the block. With this information, call ARP and you should be able to find a stud that will work with your application. Mitch Hey guys!!! The transition from the threaded area to the coller is critical. If you lengthen the threads by cutting with a dye you will severley weaken the stud. And the new threads will, of course, not be rolled or stress relieved. Mitch Unless there are interference problems, can't you just take a die and add more threads to the stud?[/quote] |
