I have a almost brand new coil thats not in use, that was for my 77 /6 which has stock electronic ignition, would that coil work in my /6 with points? I wouldnt think so but I thought I would ask you all anyway. |

I believe the 77 coil has an internal resistor and you should bypass the ballast resistor to use it in your points ignition. I honestly cant recall if the 77 cars had a dual ballast resistor or not and Im too lazy to go out to the car to get the 77 FSM. Sorry. |

I have a 77 Dart with OEM electronic ignition and comes with a dual ballast resisitor... So... |

Yes, there is a difference between the two coils. When Chrysler went to electronic ignition, they changed the coil to better handle the hotter spark over a points ignition. You can use an electronic coil with a points system, I guess it will give you a little hotter spark. Some have used a points coil with electronic ignition with success, just not me. |

Well I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I went and looked at few different replacement coil part numbers, they all use the same part number. THis seams to be a stern yes they are the same. |

No, what that means is that the replacement manufactures have standardized on one coil for the application. That coil would most likely be for the electronic ignition as more of those cars are still around and that coil will work with both applications. |
