Anyone got an 8-1/4 from an B,E,F,J Body (or even an early Dakota) that's just sitting on the floor, so that it would be easy to measure the drum to drum or the axle-flange to flange?

I'm thinking about going to a rear that is about 1-1/2 - 2" wider than the 7-1/4 in my 68 A Body. I want to switch to discs on the front and am told that it increases track width about 7/8" each side. I wouldn't mind having the rear a little wider as well, and moving spring or shock perches or changing driveshaft lengths is not a problem. So, if you have one that would be relatively easy to measure, I'd appreciate the information.

Thanks to D.Idiot for the info that all A Body rears are the same width. :?:

We put an 8 1/4 out of an early Dakota under our Duster. The spring perches are in the same place, but the axles are about 3" wider per side for a total overall width gain of about 6"

Luckily, with the Duster's tall wheel openings it works okay for our purposes (drag race only).

I think you would have a little more trouble getting it to fit under a '68 with the lower wheel openings. Even if you were to get a set of mini van or LH(?) body wheels with their negative offset. Those wheelwells in the 67-76 A bodies (except Duster and Demon) are fairly restrictive.

Let us know if you come up with something that's workable.

This is from the Dodge Aspen R/T Volare Road Runner forum: It lists the width/interchangability of the 'B' body and 'F' body axles.

"1962-70 "B"body with 8-3/4 rear. This is not an exact match. This axle is 44.00" from the center of each spring perch (44.46" F body) and 59.20" in overall width (58.50" F-body) but it does fit."

Oh yeah, The Big Block Dart website has a table that shows different widths/dimensions of the different bodies. It may be more focused on the A,B,E and not the F,J. I think it only refers to the 8 3/4, but the 8 1/4 for the same body should be the same.

I you want to avoid the "pigeon toed" look, use 7" rims from a Cordoba and match those with 5.5" rims on the front.
