Aquired one from a buddy that had JUST been redone.Problem is that his rad. was 3 on the tree w no provisions for tranny lines.I went ahead and used it and added a medium sized tranny cooler . Is everybody comfortable with that??????????????????????Haven't driven yet as the 4TH and final wheel cylinder blew up...........that'll be 4 of 4.!!!

That may not work well in the long run. Auto trans fluid has a minimum temperature for optimal performance. Running it through the radiator keeps it warm enough to perform but cool enough not to cause harm. Trans coolers are made for applications where higher then typical stress is placed on the tranny.... They are not intended to replace the radiator lines. Even cars that came with trans coolers still ran the fluid through the radiator to ensure it was warm enough.

I agree.

I cant think of a way to heat that trans oil without running it through the rad, so I would bring the rad back to the rad shop and see if they can install a cooler in the lower tank or replace it with one that has a cooler. My rad shop installed a bung for a low coolant sensor for me once without a problem. Something to consider.
