Post subject:  electronic ignition

Going to electronic ignition on my '66 slant. Still have mechanical voltage regulator, getting a replacement electronic unit. will this be sufficient for my application? (street driving)

I have this exact same set-up in my 66 Dart wagon, I have had 1 ECU failure in the past 12 years, that was with a used ECU. I replaced it with another used ECU.

Go ahead and do the conversion and remember, always carry a spare ECU.

Where is the ECU located on an 87 pickup?

Do a search on ebay for "slant six" and you'll find someone who sells NOS electronic distributors for $50- They usually come up every week or so.

Steponme...

an '87 truck with a slant does not have an ECU unless someone has already converted it to 'standard' electronic ignition. The '87 should have a 'computer' on the drivers front fender behind the battery.

Thank you!

So will the distributor on that truck be compatible with the standard electronic ignition box? What I want to do is use the parts off that truck on my Dart. Obviously I'm not interested in resurrecting the big ECU I saw right where you said it would be.
