My patient needs help. I rebuilt a Carter carb on a '64 Valiant. After a few weeks, I got a call about the carb flooding out. It apparently started after a new exhaust system was put on, but I can't see the connection there. I have lowered the fload about 6 times, changed the float and the needle and seat. No change. Sometimes fuel will flow out the top of the carb when cranking, sometimes it will run OK fo 10 minutes, then flood out. I have been into this carb so many times now and I can't see anything wrong. The carb was in great condition with no warping or throttle shaft leakage. I think the fuel pressure is too high. The fuel pump looks fairly new, and I am wondering if there could be a high pressure type that just pushes the fuel past the needle. Why it started now, I have no idea. I swapped in another carb and have the same problem. Could there also be something wrong with the fuel pump to make the pressure go too high? My only guesses for a fix are to replace the fuel pump or install a fuel pressure regulator. I need a tip or two. Thanks, |

Chuck, I guess I would say try a regulator. Or, I have an almost new stock pump I would be happy to send you free of charge. Just let me know. Lou |

Hi Chuck, Check this message thread: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8345 It could be that the "U" clip is not holding down the float's cross pin. I would also pay close attention the the needle valve, that is the valve and it has to stop the fuel, at any pressure. look for a rough or cracked sealing surface. DD |
