The head I got has the air port on the back. I know you can plug it. Are there any problems with these heads? Im stripping it and getting it ready for porting, shaving and valve job.

I was just reading some old posts about this and they said this head is much heavier is this true? And how much?

I could see where the new style head would be heavier than the old head with the spark plug tubes. There is more metal in them. But how much more could it be? Probably not enough to worry about, unless you're racing.

The later "peanut plug" head is about 10 lbs. heaver, that extra weight is not a big issue.
I have no "real" data but I would think that these heads are a little stronger and more ridged due to the extra metal and walls formed by the air injection passageway running under the ports.

Thanks for the info. I am building this head to put on my 88,000 mile 66 shortblock. Is there anything else besides a compression test to check for on the engine. I am a little worried about a new tight higher compression head on the older shortblock. The engine does run good now.
