How difficult is it to swap centers in an 8 1/4 rear?
I have found an 8 1/4 rear with 3.23's and a sure grip, BUT it came out of a 73 charger. It will be to wide for my 70 Valiant. I am going to buy a 74 Valiant out of a yard that has a 8 1/4 but I dont know what gearing or any thing else about it. Can I do the gear swap with out any special tools? OR is it a job best left to a shop?
P.S. the charger rear is FREE!!

This is a job best left to a shop or machanic knowledgable in setting-up rear-end gear sets.
The main issue is that the housings are machined with "tolerance" and if there is even a small difference in the pinion bores of the two housings, you will need different shim settings to get the proper gear mesh and bearing preloads.
