So on saturday we took the 225 out of my 74 duster. This motor had electronic ignition. Sunday we picked up a 225 with points and installed it in the car. Is there any way i can use the points setup so that I don't have to keap thge car off the road anymore? I knowq electronic ignition is better but I want to be able to drive the car NOW!!!!I would assume I just have to change a wire or maybe bypass the ballast resistor or something?????PLease help me quickly!!!!

Why don't you just swap the electronic ignition distributor into the "new" engine in place of the points distributor?

The five minute fix is to swap the distributor and run the original electronic ignition.

I agree. Simply put the electronic distributer in your new engine. If it was working before, it will work now.

ok...thanx....we switched distributors....and after fighting timing (which was my original fear) it is on the road!!!! It still sputters a little when the vacum advance kicks in, so more tuning will come tomorrow, but it feels greta to have the duster back on the road after a long winter in a 87 omni  !!!!!!!!!!!!
it's been blowing a little blue smoke out the exhaust...but oil level is fine and the problem seams to be tappering off.....hopefully it was just some oil in the pipes from the old (blown) engine....keap fingers crossed!
