You might try search on this, if I remember right I asked this question quite a while ago so it should appear on the search results. Anyway, material are varied. I plan on doing mine with fiberglass panel upholstered in black vynal and accents of chromed metal(diamond plated aluminum preferable, but having a hell of a time finding any places where I don't have to buy enough to make a house). I'm going to install a white face tach, speedometer, and other essentails from one set for the gauge cluster. For the top of the dash I'm going to make another fiberglass pad but upholster it with charcoal gray felt and put chrome to frame the heat vents and edges. If you couldn't tell, my mouth is watering at the thought of doing it, but my wallet's cringing at the reality. Anyway, pretty much any material with a little imagination will work, just remember that everything is exposed to the sun, metal gets hot, fabric fades, fiberglass can crack when done wrong, and vynal can crack. Be ready for the extra maintanance a nice pretty dash will be. |

Got mine figured out, brushed aluminum panel cut and machined to stock deminsions and finish with a complete set of Dakota digital gauges with ac/heater vent trim out of a Lexus, although some of the new F150 dash trim looks like a potential source. Future big buck project for sure. |

Just a thrifty tip: brushed aluminum Danska vodka bottles cut at 30 +or _ degree angle mounted on a level piece of aluminum from the roll bar to firewall make great guage pods for 2&5/8 gauges and they only will cost you about $16 a piece, plus every one is a party |

Dang, I just built some up in fiberglass, your tip would have saved me a lot of work but I have a custom direct dash top pod for all my efforts, besides inhaling fiberglass resin induces its own party effects, shot of vodka optional! MY CREED: YOU CUT HOLES IN MY DASH, YOU DIE A THOUSAND DEATHS. |
