Ordinary tuneup procedures should produce decent mileage.FIX YOUR ACCELLERATOR PUMP !!! Stick w the one barrell for economy .Anyone Know which one barrell is the most fuel effeciant?? On a 68 val w auto I would expect 20-22 mpg's.Doesn't explain why I had a 67 fury II which I swear got at minimum 25mpg's.{318 auto}.Also depends on your rearend ratio.Maybe if we keep at it ,these slant six freaks will tell us what ratios came w what cars, engines and trans combos ,,year by year...Good luck my brother!!!! If you removed the back seat, you might get an extra tenth of an mpg. !!!!!!!

The most common gear ratio for a 68 automatic in an A-Body is the 2.94 ratio. 3.23 and 2.76 were also common and avaliable with combos like manual shift of towing packages. Performance gears for the 7 1/4 included the 3.55, 3.91 and 4.10 but these ratios are for racing, not for milage.

As for the 1bbl carb., I have been able to get the best mpg fron the Holley 1920 "Economaster" type carb. With some tuning, 24-28 mpg is possible.
With a light vehicle, overdrive and other "tricks", 30-32 mpg has been reported from a 225 SL6. (I could never get more then 28 :? )

I just got 20.1 on a 300mile round trip. I'm not really sure I figured it accurately though. I'm running 225/75R14's which are much larger than stock size tires. It regesters almost 9.5 miles to 10 actually driven.
All my mods are on my sig.

Post subject:  63 dart mpg

My son's 63 2 door hardtop dart gets 18 mpg at best. It has a
1967 engine with 5000 miles on a full rebuild and a carter bbs
1 barrel - It is stock for the most part - the pertronix points
replacement kit being the only mod that I think would possibly
affect gas mileage.

I don't know the rear end ratio but the rear seat is still installed.
