Not likely...
Sounds like your kickdown rods have slipped/fallen out of adjustment. Take off the aircleaner housing, and look at the carburetor where the throttle cable hooks up to the throttle linkage. On the bottom of this same linkage, there should be a rod going straight down (more or less) to some braketry bolted to the manifolds (This should all be on the back side (firewall) side of the carb). This rod is part of your transmission kickdown linkage. If you follow all the rods back to the tranny, you will see how they push a lever on the tranny back as the throttle is opened. The kickdown should be adjusted so that the lever is all the way back on the trans when the carb is at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) aka the gas pedal is floored.
Check yours to see if this is the case. If it is not, adjust it so it is (there are a couple adjustment points) I have a feeling you have a nut/bolt from the linkage that rattled loose. Good luck
