Hi all. I just bought a '60 Valiant wagon. It's the upscale V200. However, off the old aluminum intake manifold runs what I believe to be a vaccuum line to power the wiper motors. Is this correct? Was there any option for electric wipers in '60?

On another note, I'm looking to put in some new wheel cylinders and do some brake work. Will someone give me the name of a great parts vendor?

If your looking for general parts like that online, www.rockauto.com is good. Otherwise, your local kragen napa autozone etc should be able to get what you need.

My first Mopar was a '48 Plymouth and it had electric wipers. I can't even recall the last time any Chrysler product had vacuum wipers.

I think all the early model Valiants had electric wipers. There were single
speed and variable speed systems. The vacuum line on the intake most
likely is for some of the vacuum actuated heater controls. What is the
size (approx diameter) of the vacuum line and where does it route?
Does it go through the firewall?

I order brake wheel cylinders and master cylinders through my local
Kragen or AutoZone for my 61 Valiant with good luck.

All Valiants came with electric wipers. The vaccum take off is for your pushbutton heater controls. You will find two vacuum actuators attached to the heater box. The temperature control valve is controlled with a cable.

For brake parts, try NAPA first.

Thanks Bill and Relic-Lover. Your answers were very helpful. Any knowledge about the options for the wipers on the V200 models? Were they single speed or variable?

From the 1960 shop manual, both types were available. The motor and
the switch were different between the two systems. The single speed motor has two wires (black and blue) on the pigtail from the motor.
The variable speed motor has four wires in the pigtail (yellow, red, black,blue). The single speed switch has 4 male lugs from the top
of a mostly rectangular switch body. While the variable speed switch
has a round body with an external circuit breaker hanging
off the back and the lugs are not visible in the picture so must be
on the back of the switch.

A v200 was the upscale model, so I would think it more likely
to have the variable speed system.

On the C pillars of my wagon, right at the spot where the plaque that reads "Suburban" would go, the metal behind the plaque has rusted out. It appears there was a kind of bracket (perhaps rubber) screwed into the metal and holding the plaque on, but whatever that bracket is has crumbled/rusted away, or fallen off long ago. Is there a clear picture or detail of such a bracket in your shop manual that holds on that trim piece? I'd love to see it so I'll know what I'm dealing with trying to find. Right now, I don't know what I'm gonna do. Especially to find new metal which has to have an indentation there for the plaque to fit into.

The 60 shop manual shows the wagon tailgate a few places, but no
detail shots of the c pillar area. You would probabably need to
track down a 60 plymouth parts manual to get enough detail to
ID the bracket.
