I'm looking to build a slant for my 73 dart swinger and was looking at a Mopar Performance 284 duration 528 lift cam. Would this cam work well with a stock head or would i need to have head work done? Would it work well with a super six intake with a stock carb or maybe a bigger two barrel? I also plan on running headers with my combonation. What else would i need to run this cam except new springs and lifters? Would stock valves work well with this cam? Thanks for any help. |

to run this particular cam you need a 4bbl large valves and a port job. The 2bbl wont be enough for the cam although the stock valves will work to maximize your efforts large valves and a port job are the key. You might think about increasing your compression ratio also. The header is a must even with a stock motor or at least dutra dules. If you want to keep a 2bbl then look at either of the comp camshafts they offer. |

I don't think MP makes that cam anymore (or any of their /6 cams), that cam is notorious for wiping out oil pump gears. Also as stated it's meant for O/S valves, 4 barrel, headers/etc...and probably a 3.91+ gear as the power curve is in the high RPM range... If keeping the stock head with a mild port job, and a super six, the Comp Cam 252S is a good streetable cam and has plenty of go, and works well with the stock ratios/stock torque convertor...and you can keep some of your gas mileage too... -D.Idiot |

I'm looking to get a comp kit also. The 252 has a RPM range of 800-4500. The next bigger (264s) is 1200- 5000. Do you think this is still streetable? It seems like it's not too big. I have 3.23 gears so I did not want to go to a 2500 rpm cam. The 264s has a .440 lift and the 252s has a .435. Is anyone running one of these? I have a Edelbrock 500, Offy intake, clifford headers with 2" dual exhaust and a stock '73 head. Thanks!

I'm running the 252S in my Feather Duster, it pulled hard with the Super six, but really came on in the street with the Hyper Pak and 4 barrel with Dutra Duals... I'm helping work with a 'project X' (I'm going to let the member post his pics and specs before I can spill the details). He's running a 264S and it's very streetable also, but I'm not sure about torque convertor issues with it (we both run manual trannies). If you're running the 3.23's and a manual either would be fine, you might have some carb tuning and timing to play with to get the most out of things on the street, remember your RPM range from idle to 65 mph is about 700/800 RPM to 2500 RPM..... If you're serious about racing and can live with some lope then check into what the other guys are playing with like the Isky and the Engle. I'll eventually be working another build up so I'm looking at the 'bigger' sticks... my 2 cents, -D.idiot |
