Ok, here we go AGAIN!!!!!! I solved my charging dilema with the help of many people (from forums and in real life). I have a new problem My front passenger blinker is not working, and neither is the dash indicating light. Also my left turn signal does not cancel at all, but the right one does. Here is what I do know: - Blinker: It is not the bulb. I switched with the left front bulb and the left front blinker still worked and the front right nothing. Switched bulbs back to original and still the same. Havent done anything further. - Plans to solve blinker: check all wire connections and especially the ground connection, try to clean the insertion point of the bulb. - What else should I try for blinker -Dash light out: Replaced the socket (old one was broken) still not working. Next is to replace the bulb. -Left turn signal not cancelling: Do I replace the cancelling cam? help please. sorry these are so long, but I try to provide as much info to avoid any confusion. thank you for your patience and time Caesar |

The canceling issue can be two things, either the tab broke on the switch, or the metal ring got out of alignment. You'll have to take the steering wheel off in both cases to check it out. When you say the front blinker is not working, do you mean that it stays on and doesn't flash, or it doesn't come on at all? Does your tail light panel signal indicator flash or not? |

Solve both problems with 1 new part; Change your turn signal switch. First though, check ALL your bulbs, if your flasher isn't the heavy duty type, any bulb on that side that is bad will prevent that side from flashing. Side markers, back (often there are 2 or more bulbs in 1 taillight housing per side), any. (except backups, license plate and headlights, of course) |

| Post subject: | What Am I Looking For |
When I pull the steering wheel, what about the switch am I looking for that would tell me it is somehow faulty? I know I need at least a new cancelling cam, because the right blinker will shutoff at the appropriate time. The rear blinker works, just not the front, and neither does my dash indicator light for the right side. Since the same circuit runs from the switch through the dash light and to the front right, if the switch is bad, it would definitely explain why both of those lights (independant of each other) are not working. I Will investigate and let you guys know what I find out, thanks Caesar |

What are you refering to as the canceling cam? There is a metal ring that slips onto the back of the steering wheel. If this ring got loose or needs adjustment, it could cancel one side and not hte other. (This metal ring has a metall "stick" coming out of one end of it and this is what bumps against the plastic tab on the switch to turn it off) On the switch itself, the mechanism that controls the turn signals has 2 tabs, one for left and one for right, that contacts the metal ring mentioned above to cancel the signal and return the lever to the off position. If, for example, only the left side were broken, then the left side wouldn't cancel but the right would. I don't think you can replace this mechanism seperately, it may be one piece with the rest of the unit. I think that once you have the wheel off it will become clearer. But if it doesn't I believe I saw a picture in either the chassis or body book that will show everything. Let me know what you see and if you still can't figure it out I'll find the picture. As for the turn signals... hmm, I'm pretty sure all 3 (front, cluster, tail panel) turn signal indicators are wired directly in parallel. So if the rear is flashing and the front/cluster isn't, I don't think its a switch issue but perhaps a connection somewhere? |

Take a good look at your firewall connectors. There is a passthru at the firewall where the wiring harness runs through and there is no weather protection for the tabs and sockets. They often corrode heavily from salt and moisture. You may find this connector to be the cause of some other mysterious electrical problems on your car. My turn signal also does not cancel in one direction. It's probably a broken canceling arm on the switch. |

i **think** that the turnsignal switch is still avail. under a chrysler PN. I know the one i have is in jen-U-wine MoPar Packaging and has a P part number printed on it. HOWEVER, will it work for a 66... i'm not sure... I guess i'll ask the obivious-- have you tried E-bay or a wrecking yard? Now if your wiring is solid and you just need the cam, well that's cake homey! -JYH |

Two weekends ago there was a very nice 65 valiant at ecology auto wrecking (Imperial Highway near Carmenita in Santa Fe Springs). I got the dash out of it, but the steering column was complete. You just have to find the tiny mopar section amid the ocean of chevys and fords. There were actually two old valiants, so get your ass down there! |
