i've been trying to find a alluminum 2barrel intake i do have the cast one and am begining to wonder if this is worth the head ache and if i'm gaining anything by doing this switch or is it just a weight saver

Moparfreak....if you already have a two-barrel iron intake, the only benefit of getting an aluminum one is weight savings.

IF, however, you only have a one-barrel, then the two-barrel setup is the way to go for a stock street engine. Helps quite a bit to wake up a slant..

The one disadvantage to the 2 piece welded ones is that they are notorious for porous welds and vacuum leaks.

I have one on my truck that doesn't leak, but I may have a golden horseshoe in my butt too.

I've had the aluminum 1 and 2 bbl 2-piece intakes on my trucks, neither leaked.
The biggest disadvantage to me is, because of the welded flange, it makes it harder to see between runners when putting the manifold washers and nuts on.
There is a huge difference in weight, the 2-piece aluminum must weigh 1/3 of the cast iron. It's even lighter than the discontinued MP M-1 1-piece intake.

I use one of these as well. I have heard he tales of porosity.

It is pretty easy to check for vacuum leaks with the manifold off . duct tape over the manifold ports and carb mount, vacuum hose on a manifold fitting and suck. On a good day I can suck as hard as a good slant.

With the manifold on the car testing is even easier. With the engine cold and idling spray carb cleaner on suspected leaks. Listen and watch for changes in engine behavior.

I like them. cheap , light , functional.

I also am using an aluminum super six. I have had no problems with vacuum leaks. If memory serves it weighs around 6 pounds.
I weighed a complete super six to ship it and it was 67 pounds for the intake, exhaust,carb, aircleaner and kickdown. the aluminum intake headers, carb, aircleaner and kickdown all weigh 27 pounds. my car lost 40 pounds by exchanging aluminum and steel for the cast iron.

so i should just stick with what i got because i have a pair of super six intakes had three at one point but my dad got a slany six and wanted to go super six so he has the other one i had
