0 225 R1 24 2E 0 - ?? - Would check this. The rest of the number is for a pre-1968 engine, so it should be a letter (P, R, S, T, V, A, B, C) 225 - 225-cid R - Regular fuel 1 24 - Assembly date - January, 24 2 - Assemble on 2nd shift E - Cast crank |

Bill, something wrong here. You stated that was a pre 68, but also a cast crank. The cast crank did not come out untill 1976. Could it be a later hydraulic lifter motor. Something like 81 or 82? |

My engine has a pad on the drivers side near the back that shows the serial number of my car on it. What does that pad say on your engine? |

I don't remember on the slants, but on all the V8's I have had newer than 69, the pad that says part of the VIN is along the very bottom of the block, on a machined pad ajacent to the oil pan rail. On smallblocks, the equivalent numbers to what you have posted are on the front of the block, drivers side just below the head mount surface. The numbers that you have posted appear to have come off the block like right behind the alternator near the #1 cylinder (top of block) Look below the oil pump about the middle, way bottom, on the passenger side. Might have to scrape and spray with brake clean or Gumout, etc to find. |

Im pretty sure the pad that had my VIN on it was on the drivers side of the engine, near the back. But definitely check the passenger side over the oil pump too, as don suggested. Those numbers you gave us came from the front of the engine. |
