I'M FINALLY GOING TO PUT MY DART CONVERT BACK TOGETHER, IT HAS BEEN APART FOR 7 YEARS(BODY SHOP ISSUES). ANYHOW IT IS NOW A ROLLING SHELL & NEEDS TO BE ROAD WORTHY AGAIN. I'M PLANNING ON STARTING WITH THE BOTTOM 7 WORKING UP, NEW BRAKES/LINES, THEN MOVE TO THE INTERIOR,GLASS & THEN THE MOTOR TRANNY.
i'M LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS FROM THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT I'M ABOUT TO, ANY IDEAS SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED THANKS!!!!!!!! 8)

It's all "up-hill" from here... :wink:

Been there, done that and have a nice Dart to show for all the work.
Here is my story, my older brother bought a worn-out 65 Dart convertible and wanted to do a "Ground-up" restoration.
He took the car competly apart, did the body work and put the car in primer. The front suspension was rebuilt and the engine, transmission and interior seats were all set-out to be redone.

At that point he move out of my parents house and lost interest in the car.
The car sat for a year in my parents driveway until my brother sold me the car. I had also just moved away from the parents house so I towed the car over to my place along with boxes of parts.

I quickly installed the new engine and trans and had the car as a "running shell in primer" for a year. Got it painted and then started to put all the "little bits" back onto the car. This proved to be a major problem because I was not the one to remove the item to begin with and I had many boxes to look through to find what I needed. Reassembly slowed to a crawl.

Then it happened, just by chance I found another 65 Dart GT convertible "Parts Car". That car was totally rusty with a frozen engine, I bought it anyway for $40.00, towed it home and all of a sudden, I had a "set of instruction" and a second set of everything I needed to get my project back together.

Things went together a lot faster after that, I would go out to the parts car, take-off the item I wanted to install into my "shell", along with all the fasteners and the knowledge on how it "went on". I would look through my boxes of parts to find the other set of the same stuff and then pick the best of the two and install the item.

It took me 3 years of "an hour or two a night" effort to get the car back together but it's all there now.

So my tip, try to find another car to help you get everything back to where it belongs. If you can't find a parts car, at least find other owners with the same year and model to ask or look at their car(s)
You will also need a FSM, that is a must for what you are about to do.

Since that restoration I will NEVER take a car completly apart for a restoration. Don't get me wrong, I still restore cars but I do it one section at a time. Needs and engine, I do the engine. Once that is done, needs body work / paint, I do that and get it finished. Interior...., you get the idea. I call it a "pizza pie restoration" just take one slice at a time!

work slow thats the best advice I can give. its easy to scratch that fresh paint.
I do take my cars completely apart when restoring, never had trouble to get it back togheter.

Thanks for the replies, Doc your 65 looks awesome!! You want a yellow 69 with a new black top that needs some assembly!!(ha ha) What would we do with out the Mopar(S) in the garage???
