CAN ANYONE GIVE ADVICE ON REMOVING A WINDSHIELD FROM A 1960 VALIANT?? IT IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE & I NEED TO KEEP IT SINCE NEW ONES ARE $600, AFTER TAKING THE LOCK STRIP OUT & SOAKING IT IN SOAPY WATER , DO YOU TAKE OUT THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY(GASKET+ GLASS ) OR JUST THE GLASS?/ tHANKS |

I've had the best luck with lots of patience and WD-40. Work around the window with a putty knife between the glass and the rubber, inside and outside, shooting WD into the rubber to get it good and slippery. The glass should come out of the rubber with easy pressure. I wouldn't try to take the rubber and glass together; also never pry with a screwdriver or such because it concentrates the force into a nice big crack |

I would sacrifice the rubber to save the glass. Just cut it where the lock strip seam is and it will come out easily. You don't want to reuse your old seal anyway; it will leak. I'd buy a new one. |

I have the same issue and a related question. Not sure if the '60 Valiant is the same but my '74 Scamp has a chrome strip all the way around the glass that I carefully removed but it's in bad shape anyway. Do I need to reinstall the chrome strip or, do the new seals take up the gap where th chrome strip was. Also there are little sheet metal screws that hold the clips for the strip, what do I do with those? I would prefer to go without the chrome strip. Thanks |

No one in the WORLD sells window gaskets for these cars!!!! I have 2(60 and a 61) and luckily the gaskets are savable but I could use a set of 1/4 glass gaskets .I have looked high and low and couldnt even find a NOS set. I realize this is not what you want to hear and wish I could tell you somthing different. HyperValiant |

A new gasket is not an option on these cars........But the locking strip from a early 80's Chevy truck will replace yours that is sureley dried out ,shrunk and cracked. HyperValiant |

I think I have found a place in Australia that has gaskets for the 60-62 Valiants, I'm sure it isn't cheap, but it is possible. There is hope, for the demented few. 60-62 Valiant people!!!!!!! |

WOW! That's unbelievable. I think your only option should the OZ source not work out is to cut out a cross section and bring it to a manufacturer and have the profile reproduced. You'll have to pay for setup time, die making, and a huge minimum quantity, and if you can pass this monetary hurdle, you still have to come up with corner fitments and cement the pieces together. |
