Hold some sugarcubes in front of the carb and those 300 horses will crawl out of there in no time

not even close. You can't hit 300hp with a normally aspirated 225cu.in.

EFI + Turbo will get you there.

Check out the Slant Sickness article from Hot Rod. That engine put about 225 hp to the rear wheels, which may have been close to 300 at the crank - and it used a Hyper-Pak, somewhat aggressive but still streetable cam, headers, some head work, and a 100 hp shot of nitrous oxide. 300 hp naturally aspirated is going to need a redline like a Honda S2000, and piston speeds in excess of those found in Formula One cars. It's possible with forced induction though.

You've got the funds; do you want the challenge? The turbo/efi combos run like stink, but you've got to know what you're doing and be willing to work at it.
Otherwise, your answer is nitrous. Build a solid street combo, don't skimp on the forged pistons, and hit it with the bottle  ! Look at what Charrlie has done with little 170s on the blue stuff!

NOx is cheating :D I don't count that as "normally aspirated" It's a chemical supercharger...

moparman didn't say it had to be NA; he just wanted a 300 hp slant  .
Besides, is it cheating if you don't get caught? :D
Actually, I agree, I think nitrous is a crutch; but if you've ever been hit by a crutch, you don't forget it...

If chemical supercharging is cheating, why isn't mechanical supercharging? Or if a Vortec is cheating, why isn't a turbo? Different strokes for different folks.
Besides, Alcohol is for drinking, not driving. :) :)

$10000!!!!! I thought the article in MCG said that the motor itself was pretty much stock! Aside from the turbo and injection what else could you spend $$$$ on???? If they spent $10000 on that motor I want to know where.
