Post subject:  power steering gear too short?

I swapped my old power steering gear box for a new remanufactured one from Kragen. When re-installing the gear box and the steering column the column seems to be about 3/4 inch too short, I can't get the pin into the coupling body. I have already installed the Pitman arm and it seems to fit properly.

Has anyone had this problem? does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Brian

Double check the application, its possible they sent you the wrong one.
Though it's doubtful theyll honor a refund since youve already installed it in the car.

Rule Number One: Buying *working* parts from "joe sixpack"/consumer grade low-end auto parts stores (Kragen, Schuck's, Pep Boys, Checker, AutoZone, etc.) is a very big no-no. It gets you reduced reliability and increased hassle. This goes for just about everything: Starters, alternators, carburetors, engines, transmissions, distributors, etc., and it certainly goes for such things as steering chucks! The "Lifetime warranty" given with many of these parts winds up meaning you spend your "lifetime" replacing shoddy parts under warranty.

The pros buy parts at NAPA or CarQuest (for instance) for a reason: They're worth buying. Even better is an actual specialist in the part you need. Steer and Gear, Firm Feel and several other firms have *quality* steering gears available...that actually fit.
