Post subject:  Voltage regulator for guages 1965 Valiant

I was thinking of replacing the reed switch "regulator" (pulsing unit) that plugs into the guage assembly with a solid state unit. What would be the best voltge to run the guages at? How much current will the new regulator have to handle? Are there any suggestions in terms of a replacement unit?

I have heard people using a 7805 linear regulator. Check out my post (and the rest of the messages of course) on this thread http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... 7805#20842

I think madelectrical or one of the other wiring sights details how to do a replacment as well.

Thanks, I just bought a pack of 5 off of ebay. I'm thinking that a constant supply of power will be kinder to the guages than contantly being hammered with pulsing 12 volts.

This conversion was covered in Mopar Action some years back; the article is around.

If your gauges are working correctly now, there's no reason to futz with them. They are not being damaged by the original-type regulator as long as it's working correctly.
