i bought a super six setup minus the exhaust manifold. my car is a 73 dart and im still a little unclear about whether my exhaust manifold will work with the super six. it does have the round counterweight so it should have the open choke pocket and it should work right? are there any other problems i might run into mounting the super six intake to the non super six exhaust manifold? should i be worried about fitment problems and leaks since im using separate manifolds? when i get ready to do the swap can the intake be removed by itself or would it be best to take the intake and exhaust out at the same time so i dont break anything? im also going to be using a 318 bbd and ive read something about the choke mounting to the carb being different but havent been able to figure it out. i have the super six bbd and it appears to be all there so i can swap anything i might need to as long as i know what to swap. i drive my car daily and dont want it to be out of commission for too long. ive searched and read the super six article but im still unsure about a couple of things. any answers to these questions would be very helpful. thanks

Your main concern here is the open choke pocket. You need this to be able to use the factory two barrel choke pulloff. So long as it is an open pocket you should be good to go. An "open" choke pocket looks like this:

The intake and exhaust manifolds should bolt right up, unless your old exhaust manifold has become warped. In which case you may need to fit the intake and exhaust manifolds together and have them resurfaced at a maching shop. The intake and exhaust manifolds are only removabel as a unit. You cannot remove the intake without also remove the exhaust. I suppose you could leave the exhaust manifold bolted to the exhaust pipe, but the manifold will be disconnected form the head no matter what you do.

This is a v-8 BBD choke linkage:
Note the relation between the slot for the choke flap and the hole for the rod to the pulloff.

This is a slant six BBD choke linkage (actually a v-8 carb modified to work with a slant):

Again, note the relation between the hole for the choke rod and the slot for the choke flap.

If you have a slant six BBD all you need to do it make sure that whatever carb you use uses the likage piece form the slant six BBD. It can be swapped by removing the two screws holding the choke flap to the rod.

Other than that you should be good to go. Do you have the correct kickdown linkage if your car is an automatic?

thanks for the help. yes i have the kickdown for the tranny. my problem right now is that choke linkage piece didnt come with the carb. it was removed some time. i bought the setup off ebay and the guy that sold it to me is going to try and find the piece i need. another problem is there arent many mopars in the junk yards around here. thats why i ended up buying the setup off ebay. does anyone have an extra choke linkage they might be willing to part with? thanks again for the thorough answer.

Does the v-8 carb have the choke linkage? If so, that can be modified to work. Follwo the instructions in my super six article. Also, bbds turn up pretty regularly on E-bay. They may or may not be for a slant six, but you can make it work with a hacksaw and some JB weld.

my carb has the linkage, i would rather not have to cut it up and modify it though. would the super six swap be more difficult if i left the exhaust manifold bolted to the head pipe. to me it seems lke if i dont have to take the manifold off the headpipe, thats just a couple less bolts that i have to risk breaking. i know it will be unbolted from the head but will there be room for me to get in there to clean the head mounting surface and put the gasket in if i leave the exhasut connected to the head pipe? sorry for all the questions but i want to be as prepared as possible to make the swap so it will hopefully go smoothly.

You will be creating more work for yourself trying to leave the exhaust manifold in place. The carb, intake, and exhaust manifolds are very easy to take off as one piece...although it is fairly heavy.

Hose the exhaust manifold-to-pipe bolts down with a good penetrating lube (eg Kroil or PB Blaster) several times, and you shouldn't have any problems getting the bolts off w/o breaking them.

ive been spraying all the bolts a couple times a week for a couple a weeks now since i bought the intake. i hope that should do the trick.
