I've only run the Carter, and had a few problems, just commonly the throttle shafts need to be rebushed and on one rebuilder I couldn't get the body to seal to the top, after pulling it apart and using a steel rule, I found the top of the body and bowl to be uneven/warped, after replacing the body from another donor it went together and worked fine. I haven't worked with the Holley 2280 yet, some guys here have installed one, most of the 2280's I find in yards are the late 80's feedback model for 318 Vans or Trucks... so those definately won't be on my purchase list.

If you want to be the 'informer', rebuild both and drive one for a few months looking at gas mileage/tuning/power and then try the other...and let us know what your favorite was...

I have run both carbs, and there is a definite tradeoff. The Carter gives you beter performance, but the Holley will give you 1-3 miles per gallon more. The holleys seem to have fewer problems with the throttle bushing, but the BBD is a great carb if it is tuned properly.

i was wondering about that i've got 4 incomplete carters here and all seem to be warped but might look better when i get gaskets for the 2 i picked to put together i think my dad needs one to the holley is his but he said he don't like them asked why and all he said was he knew the carters better so he stuck with them if the carter gives me more power it will probably be the one i'm likely to use need as much power as i can get and i can live with a few miles less per gallon i do have 3 slants out back to so i might set one up with the holley have thought of finding a arrow or something like it and putting one in it but thats for later need to get my truck going before i start another project and speaking of projects i do still have a 75 cornet that i will be restoring after my truck is done

NGK's run colder than some of the stock plugs, so if you pull your plug and find you're not getting enough heat, you may have to find another brand, currently both of my car run AC-Delco plugs since I have to run a heat range hotter than required and they were the only brand in town I could find for the RTS-45 plug....

I only know that the AC's that were in it were all white colored and shot. The NGK V powers REALLY picked up the accelleration. How long that lasts, only time will tell...

In your case, ANY new plug would have picked up the acceleration. Even the .99 autolites. Remember, the ignition system only produces enough voltage to jump the gap in the plug. On a stock engine, anything other then stock replacement parts is kind of a waste of money.

Spark plugs are spark plugs, they all do the same thing. If you feel better paying twice as much as I do, so be it. I perfer the money in my pocket, not others.
