Post subject:  Carter BBD choke

I transplanted a Super Six setup from a 76 Volare to my 70 Valiant but now I'm having trouble finding a choke coil for the two-barrel. I've looked at several sources on the web. Is there something I'm missing? How hard would it be to install an electric choke?

The part you need is called a "choke thermostat", and NAPA will sell it to you. It will be a big help if you know the 4-digit carburetor type number, because there are a few different ones (Echlin 2-230 and Echlin 2-243).

These are all electric-assist chokes; they have a heating element in the housing that helps the choke come off properly. If this heating element is left unused, the choke will not come off fast enough and you'll waste a lot of gas. So, you need one other part as well: The choke *modulator*. This is a device that is placed electrically in series between Key-On 12V and the choke thermostat's electric wire. You bolt it to the cylinder head so it can sense ambient temperature.

I just ordered the choke for my Carter equipped Super Six from NAPA. It's for a '79 Aspen and part number is 2-343. The price was $32.24.
