i just found out that none of the parts stores around are going to be able to find me a v-8 throttle cable to use with my super six conversion. do i have to shorten the six cylinder cable for it to work on the super six?

I am not sure about your body application, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a subsitute boneyard donor for v8 cables. I took one out of a 318 1980's vintage truck. Fit fine in my 64 273 Valiant.

I got mine from a 70's 318 for my '64 Dart. I took the cable hold down bracket as well, then bent it to do my bidding.

I used the cable from the 77 volare wagon I got the carb from. Works fine on my 63 dart.

There are a couple of ways you can do this:

The original F-body cable is for a square hole in the firewall, this is a direct bolt in for any 75-76 A-body, being a 73-74 you have the 'round cable hole.... You already haven't found a V-8 Cable, you could modify your firewall and use the stock F-body cable...you could make a loooong workaround using a late K-car or newer Sebring cable (this'll help if you're thinking Hyperpak later in life...LOL)....

One other place exists...Your local Dodge Dealership...they are still available from them (yes, the pre-75 round ones) because lots of guys use them for V-8 transplants. Here in Oregon Hershberger Dodge in Woodburn keeps a whole selection handy for drag racers, you just bring your tape measure, tell them the length and pay out $12.95....

If you are still stumped by the end of the week, let me know, I think the local pick-a-part has a 318 '73 Dart in their yard.

the dodge dealer was no help. ive dealt with them and they are never very motivated to help. can i just use the slant six cable till i locate a shorter one? any one know of other body styles that will work with my 73 dart without and modifications?

if your up for a little fabrication, a lokar cable (cut to fit) fits on the firewall/gas pedal side, but you'll have to make a new braket out on the carb side. not real hard but a welder and some fabrication knowledge would be required. the lokar cable is available in summit, i think around 30.00

Try Year One, that's where I got the one for my Super 6 setup last year after I converted my '65 to cable throttle instead of the old rod linkage.

I think it was OE Mopar, Here's a pic.
