Post subject: which carb for this???
PostPosted: Tue May 18, 2004 3:57 pm
ok if any of you remember I started a build up last july well its finaly ready. but which carb to go on it? here are the stats:
225 bored .060 cut head for 9.1:1 compression 1.6 roller rockers a comp cams custom grind .500 lift 224@ 50 duration ford valves 1.776 int and 156 ex.(I think) they are the ford 300 valves any way. A really nice port job clifford headers and a shorty clifford 4bbl inatke. A 3.23 or 3.21 rear end and a 2600 rpm stall.
now which carb?? I know I want an electric choke and vaccume secondaries. I have concidered Demon Jr. 525 cfm, Edelbrock 500 and 600 cfm and also Holley 500 and 600 cfm. Comp cams sugested 550 max but that was before the adition of a poirt job and headers so I figure 50 more cfm might not hurt things. Any sugestions? Doc ? Any one?

Unless you're bucking for maximum gas mileage, a 600 cfm Eddy or Holley would be ok, the boosters usually cut down on the actual cfm in the venturies (except in the Carter/Eddy). You have enough Hi-Po stuff that you'll be able to use a 600 cfm carb...the vacuum secondaries when dialed in only will allow you what your mill 'needs'...also remember to get a carb tuning kit for which ever one you choose and be prepared to recurve the distributor to make the best use of your mill...

Any of the carbs you listed will be OK but you will have to do some "fine tuning" so it is a matter of using the type of carb. you are comfortable with.
In my case, I use Holleys because I have lots of jets, power valves, pump nozzels etc. to tune with.
