Post subject:  early/late a-body parts interchange?

This question's probably been asked a million times here, but this is my first post, so apologies in advance. I have access to an intact, but terminally rusted, 1970 340 swinger, and I'm thinking of finding an early a-body (been eyeing a 66 dart and 64 valiant wagon here in town) to swap parts onto. I know the 340 itself and 8 3/4 are easy (with the right adapter mounts), but what about the 727 (push-button vs. floor shift?), torsion bars, and front suspension stuff (sway bar, LCAs)? Thanks,

Matt

All I can say is that the suspension parts will bolt on. I´m just about to swap a 72 Duster disc brake into a 62 Lancer.
The early engine compartment is tighter (I think it got wider in 66 or 67) so fitting a small block might be a problem (thinking of the exhaust manifolds), but I´m not sure about that.

All suspension parts will swap, except the k-member and the sway bar. The A727 will fit, but you may need to "enlarge" the tranny tunnel with a BFH. The 340 will bolt in, but you will need differant engine mounts, Shumacher has the need parts. The early A-bodies used special exhaust manifolds with the 273. They will bolt on to the 340, but are really restrictive. But, if the early A-body has manual steering, a set of 340 exhaust manifolds can be made to work by grinding groove into the outlet where the coupler hits the manifold.

Good luck
