| Post subject: | Control module question - please help |
I have just acquired a 74 Scamp with 225. I had it running then it just died. I rebuilt the carb, new fuel line, etc. I can confirm that it is getting fuel. I'm thinking the control module died on me. I have found what I think is a control module mounted on the inner right fender with wiring going to the alternator. Is this the only module? I know, maybe a stupid question, but I have to ask. Thanks very much, and I'm looking forward to visiting this board quite often. dave |

I assume you are referring to the ignition control module. Usually these will be labelled at the factory "Chrysler Electronic Ignition" or words to that effect. Before you replace it you should verify that you are not getting spark. Pull a spark plug wire off of a spark plug and push the rubber boot back until the tip of the copper connector it exposed. Hold the end of the wire 1/4 inch away from the valve cover and have a friend crank the engine. You should see a spark. If you don't then you most likely have a faulty coil, but the ignition madule could be bad too. Oh yeah, this is the only ignition module in the Chrysler electronic ignition system. Reed |

Ballast resistor! Check the ballast resistor. Little ceramic block, mounted on the firewall, maybe the inner fender on the driver's side. Has a single-screw mounting fixture wrapped around it. Roger |

The ignition module has 5 wires to it. Sounds like you found the alternator voltage regulator with only 2 wires to it. Check the ballast resistor first like GTS225 said. |

Thanks, everyone. I think I'll just replace both the ballast resister and the ignition module. I'll keep you all posted as to the results. dave |

I got a pretty much new ignition module, $30 OBO. Also have the ballast resistor, but it's an old one and I'm not sure if it works, it's free but'll add to shipping. Have a couple of other free except for shipping parts if you're interested. email at barbaloot5000@cs.com or pm me(in case I got the email written wrong). |
